How to use Climb Hub

Climb Hub is the social app for climbers — a logbook, partner finder, and community in one place. This page walks through every user-facing feature step by step. New to Climb Hub? Start with Sign up, then log your first send.

Getting started

Create your account with email or a social provider.

  1. Open the app and tap Register.
  2. Enter your email, username, password, display name, date of birth and pronouns.
  3. Tap Sign up. You can also continue with Apple, Google or Facebook from the same screen.
  4. A recovery-passphrase modal appears within a second — write it down so you can recover your end-to-end-encrypted messages on a new device.
  5. You land on the home grid with seven feature cards. You're in.

Sign in with email + password, or with Apple, Google or Facebook.

  2. Enter your email and password and tap Sign in.
  3. Or tap Continue with Apple, Continue with Google or Continue with Facebook.
  4. If MFA is enabled, enter the one-time code from your email on the next screen.
  5. Your refresh token is stored securely — the next launch skips login until you sign out.

How to reset your Climb Hub password

Use the email-link flow from the Login screen.

  1. On the Login screen tap Forgot password.
  2. Enter your email and submit — Climb Hub shows a confirmation either way (no user enumeration).
  3. Open the email and tap the reset link.
  4. The app opens directly to a Reset password screen via deep link.
  5. Enter a new password, confirm it, and you're redirected to Login.

How to log out

How to accept updated Terms of Use

When the Terms change, Climb Hub blocks the app until you accept.

  1. If your accepted Terms version is out of date, a Terms screen appears on launch.

Bluetooth + location permissions are required on Android. Kilter illuminate needs a production build of the app — it doesn't work in Expo Go.

Beta videos

How to browse the Beta video feed

A TikTok-style vertical feed of climb tips from other climbers.

  3. Tap the video-camera button on the toolbar.
  4. Pick a clip up to two minutes long.

Send a branded video file (not just a link) to friends in any messaging app.

  1. Open a beta in the Beta feed.
  2. Tap the Share button (right of comments).
  3. Choose Share video — Climb Hub renders a branded MP4 with a Climb Hub intro + corner watermark + "Get the app" outro.

  3. Pick Auto (follows the OS), Light or Dark.
  4. The app switches immediately and persists across launches.

Long-press to drag the home grid into your preferred order.

  1. On the home grid, long-press a card for about 350ms — it lifts with a small scale animation.
  2. Drag it into a new slot. Other cards spring out of the way.
  3. Release — the order saves automatically and persists on relaunch.

How push notifications work in Climb Hub

New messages, friend requests, events and replies trigger pushes; badges update live.

  1. On first launch, Climb Hub asks for push permission.
  2. Approve it to receive banners, sound and badge counts for messages, connect, partner, events, climbs and feed.
  3. Tapping a banner opens the relevant screen directly (e.g. the conversation).
  4. Badges clear instantly when you view the source content.
  5. Decline push if you prefer — the rest of the app works unchanged.

How the home grid works

Seven tabs with live badge counts.

  1. After login, the home grid loads with cards for Feed, Climbs, Partner, Messages, Events, Communities, Connect and (for admins) Admin.
  2. Each card shows a badge with unread / new counts where relevant.
  3. Pull-to-refresh or change tabs to refresh badges.

Achievements (medals)

How to earn and view medals

Unlock medals for what you climb; see earned and in-progress ones on your profile.

  1. Just use the app — logging sends, hitting streaks, reaching grades, visiting gyms and other actions automatically work toward medals.
  2. When you qualify, a toast and a notification let you know you earned a medal.
  3. Open your profile and tap the medals card to see the full grid.
  4. Earned medals show first (newest first); medals you haven't earned yet appear greyed out with a live progress bar (e.g. 6/10).
  5. Tap another climber's medals to see what they've earned.

How to share a medal as a post

One tap turns a medal you earned into a feed post.

  1. From the earn toast, or from any earned medal in your grid, tap Share as post.
  2. The post is created instantly (no editor) and is visible to friends.
  3. It appears in the feed as a medal card — your followers can react and comment; tapping it opens your medals grid.

How to create medals for your gym

Reward your regulars with gym-specific medals (gym owners & admins).

  1. From your gym's Manage screen, open Medals.
  2. Tap Create medal: add a title, description and a PNG badge image.
  3. Add criteria — e.g. send N climbs, reach a grade, visit the gym — each with a target. Criteria can count only your gym or anywhere.
  4. Optionally set a time window, and choose whether past activity counts toward it.
  5. Publish. Members who follow your gym see it as available to earn, and you can track how many have earned each medal.

For gym owners

How to manage a gym you own

Areas, climb styles, grading scales and pending submissions all live under Manage.

  1. Open your gym detail page.
  2. Tap Manage.
  3. Pick a sub-screen: Pending climbs (with count badge), Areas, Climb styles, or Grading scales.

  2. Tap a row to open the full climb detail with the Awaiting verification banner.
  3. Tap Verify — the climb appears in the public list. Or tap Reject and confirm to archive it.
  4. Verify and reject also work inline from the list.

How to add a gym admin or transfer ownership

Delegate management to trusted climbers, or hand the gym over entirely.

  1. From your gym's Manage screen, tap Manage admins.
  2. Tap Add admin and search for a user; pick them to add.
  3. Remove an admin by tapping the remove icon on their row.
  4. To transfer ownership: under Danger zone, tap Transfer ownership and pick a new owner. Confirm the destructive dialog.
  5. You become an admin afterwards; the new owner sees full owner UI on their next focus.

  1. Open Info → Report a bug.
  2. Describe the problem (at least 10 characters).
  3. Optionally attach up to 5 screenshots.
  4. Submit — device info (OS, app version, model) auto-attaches.
  5. See your reports + their status in your bug-report list.

How to suggest a feature

Tell us what you'd like to see next.

  1. Open Info → Suggest a feature.
